Founders

  • Niko Dahl

    PresidentChief Investment OfficerMPhys Physics

    Niko is a second-year physicist and the president and chief investment officer of OQTS. Before Oxford, he took a year out to work at the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials in Singapore, working directly under Professor Sir Konstantin Novoselov to refine a novel experimental technique he had previously developed. That research is what pulled him towards quantitative work, and he has spent this summer in Quant Research at Systematica Investments. He also runs a small personal semi-systematic equity strategy. Outside of that, Niko cooks (he is an accredited pasta chef), plays cricket, and is happiest doing something out on the water.

  • Alec Mitchell-Thomson

    Vice PresidentHead of Research & TechnologyMEng Engineering Science

    Alec reads Engineering Science at New College, ranked 7th of 180 in first-year examinations, and spent summer 2026 as a Quant Trading Intern at Brevan Howard, then as a Machine Learning Researcher at the Oxford Quantum Device Lab. Personal research spans a real-time pipeline turning ship-tracking data from the global LNG fleet into macro trading signals, and a hidden Markov model for macro regime detection. Within OQTS, Alec is vice president and head of research and technology, and is building OXDAQ, the society's exchange simulator, where members run and test their own trading algorithms live.

  • Andrej Ljubic

    Core memberMMath Mathematics

    Andrej reads Mathematics at Oxford and works in cybersecurity research. He represented the UK at the 2025 European Cybersecurity Challenge, ranked third internationally and first in Europe in that year's CSAW undergraduate finals, and spent the summer as a vulnerability research intern at Interrupt Labs. He designed Hack The Box's Coding and Secure Coding challenge categories, delivered to over 3.8 million members, and writes a technical blog drawing more than 20,000 visits a month. Andrej has built convolutional neural networks from scratch in NumPy and has competed in IMC Prosperity and Quantihack.

  • Bembe Mackintosh

    Core memberDPhil Condensed Matter Physics

    Bembe is a DPhil student in Condensed Matter Physics, studying ultrafast charge-carrier dynamics in low-dimensional semiconductors. His research uses multidimensional spectroscopy and quantitative modelling to resolve stochastic processes in these systems from complex experimental data. He graduated in the top 5 of his cohort at the University of Bristol, with the prize for best Master's research; using time-dependent density functional theory and femtosecond resolved measurements to model the dynamics of exciton state coupling in organic semiconductor systems. His work has resulted in publications in leading physical science journals including PNAS and JACS.

  • Aleksandra Perelman

    Core memberMSc Mathematical & Computational Finance

    Aleksandra is a Mathematical and Computational Finance MSc candidate at the University of Oxford, where she holds one of four Squarepoint Scholarships. She currently works as a Technology & Investment Analyst at Launchbay Capital. Her independent research includes ongoing work applying tensor network methods to derivatives pricing, alongside a PCA-based statistical arbitrage strategy combining factor decomposition with OU mean reversion. Her undergraduate thesis benchmarked quantum-inspired machine learning against classical models for short-term asset price prediction. She previously interned on UBS's Natural Resources investment banking team. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and Russian, with native proficiency in Belarusian.

  • Vid Homsak

    Core memberDPhil Particle Physics

    Vid is a DPhil student in particle physics and a Clarendon Scholar, building machine learning for the ATLAS experiment at CERN: transformer-based classifiers and a tagger calibration method now used across the collaboration's flavour-tagging analyses. Vid graduated in the top 3% of the MSci Physics with Theoretical Physics cohort at Imperial College London, with a first-authored paper in Physical Review D. Since 2024 Vid has built and run a live systematic portfolio of ten strategies across twenty crypto pairs, trading real capital since June 2025.

How it grows

From core team to research projects

From Michaelmas 2026: around five research projects of four members, each with a project lead.

A team lives with one research area for a term or a year, going deep enough to learn everything there is to know about it, and finishes by writing it up as a research paper or article. After review, a strategy that looks promising may be deployed live. Project teams and leads will appear on this chart as they are formed; the projects themselves live on the Research page.
